The Effects of Sugar on the Body

fruit and vegetables shaped into a heart

Sugar increases the risk of coronary artery disease because it inflames the linings of arteries to the heart. ‘High sugar levels impair the arteries’ ability to respond to the heart’s need for more blood flow and make both arteries and platelets “stickier,” increasing the risk of a stroke or heart attack.’ – Jennifer Berman, MD.

Ingesting refined white sugar creates a process called glycation, which ages and weakens your skin and causes wrinkles and sagging.

‘Sugar is poison to the body.’ – Dr.Robert Lustig

Having one can of soda a day can increase your chance of getting diabetes by 29%, as well as adding 15.9 pounds of fat in unwanted places over a year’s time.

White sugar is the most destructive and degenerating of all, because it is usually ‘refined’ with the use of sulphuric acid. – Dr. Norman Walker

Sugar can damage the delicate filtration system of the kidneys. Thus it is no surprise that diabetes is one of the main causes of kidney failure.

Sugar can aggravate arthritis by pumping inflammatory cytokines into your blood stream.

Sugar can rewire the reward pathways of the brain. A study in the British Journal of Psychiatry concluded that people with processed, sugary diets had a 58% higher risk of being depressed.

  • Massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques, to enhance function, aid in the healing process, decrease muscle reflex activity, inhibit motor-neuron excitability, promote relaxation and well-being, and as a recreational activity. Massage involves working and acting on the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal systems. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearm, feet, or a massage device. At The Health & Beauty Room, Ansdell you can choose between Indian Head massage, Aromatherapy, Cupping therapy, Reflexology, Facial massage and Swedish massage. • Nutritional Therapy - As a Clinical nutritionist I focus on the role of nutrition in chronic disease, including possible prevention or re-mediation by addressing nutritional deficiencies before resorting to drugs. A poor diet may have an injurious impact on health, causing deficiency diseases such as scurvy and health-threatening conditions like obesity and metabolic syndrome and such common chronic systemic diseases as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. Most foods contain a mix of some or all of the nutrient types, together with other substances, such as toxins of various sorts. Some nutrients can be stored internally (e.g., the fat soluble vitamins), while others are required more or less continuously. Poor health can be caused by a lack of required nutrients or, in extreme cases, too much of a required nutrient. For example, both salt and water (both absolutely required) will cause illness or even death in excessive amounts. • Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal which removes the hair from the root. New hair will not grow back in the previously waxed area for four to six weeks, although some people will start to see regrowth in only a week due to some of their hair being on a different growth cycle.. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, pubic area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet. There are many benefits to waxing versus other forms of hair removal. It is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at one time. It is a long-lasting method. Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for two to eight weeks. When hair is shaved or removed by depilatory cream, the hair is removed at the surface rather than the root. Within a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface. With these methods, hair tends to grow back as a rough stubble. Areas that are repeatedly waxed over long periods of time often exhibit regrowth that is softer.
